The U.S. Forest Service road system -- more than 400,000 miles -- is nine times larger than the entire interstate highway system in the United States. Yet Bob Kintigh, in his Aug. 8 guest column, would have you believe thats not enough. These logging roads scar forested hillsides, pollute pristine streams and fragment wildlife habitat. The time has come to acknowledge the damage that has been done. The time has come to acknowledge that the forests need healing. They need restoration. They need care.
