Timber Harvest After Fires
Timber harvest after fire causes long-term damage to forest landscapes and their associated aquatic systems. Fire, though crucial in the life cycle of western forests, initially leaves forest soil susceptible to accelerated erosion until it can undergo its own natural healing processes. Soil-disturbing activities such as logging and road-building further accelerate this process, leading to sedimentation and damage to aquatic ecosystems in amounts much greater than those caused by the fire alone.
Watershed Restoration After the Biscuit Fire
A project that includes extensive salvage harvest and little road decommissioning after a fire has no chance of truly recovering the area. PRC teamed with Pacific Watersheds Associates after the Biscuit Fire to produce a true restoration proposal for the Biscuit Fire area that would create over 400 woods-worker jobs.
