Oregonians Care about Clean Water and Coho Salmon
A Healthy Economy Requires a Healthy Environment
In a 2006 poll about forest management on Oregon State Forests, Oregonians ranked the environment and the economy as 2 of the top 4 issues of importance.
Forests Should Be Managed to Provide Clean Water and Fish Habitat
Oregonians strongly believe that our forests should be managed to provide clean water and habitat for coho salmon and other fish. And coho is the top ranked species that people in Oregon want to protect.
- 95% of people polled said clean water is very important (87%) to somewhat important (8%)
- 97% said fish habitat is very important (78%) to somewhat important (19%)
- 91% said coho protection is very important (71%) to somewhat important (20%)
The message is clear: Oregonians care about clean water and coho for a healthy economic future. We can realize this future through the current Endangered Species Act protections, as well as ongoing and increased efforts to recover coho habitat.
