A perennial Montana favorite for floating by raft and canoe, the Smith rises in the Castle Mountains of central Montana, and flows by way of its valley between the Big Belt and Little Belt Mountains before it traverses the plains to meet the Missouri. Deep Creek is an important tributary supporting native cutthroat trout, and many other tributaries contain isolated native trout populations.
